A Quick and Easy Way to Temper Chocolate
You can prepare hot chocolate bombs at home with just a few basic ingredients. You’ll need eight to ten ounces of milk, mini marshmallows, and chocolate chips. Choose your favorite brand of chocolate, cocoa mix, and marshmallows. If you want to add colour, use coloured marshmallows. To make hot chocolate bombs at home, you can also use warm milk. However, you can use half-and-half or warm milk instead of the cocoa mix.
First tempering chocolate for hot chocolate bombs is important, but the process we’re doing here, called seeding, is simple and effective.
Using high-quality chocolate is the best way to make a perfect chocolate bomb at home.
You’ll need a large glass bowl and a silicone mold. You can use one that is 2.5 inches in diameter. It’s best to wash the mold between colors, but if you’re using a silicone mold, you can make it smaller by using a small silicone mold. You can put melted chocolate, Lucky Charms marshmallows, or chocolate pieces in the mould. Once the mixture is in the mold, carefully press it around the sides of the mould until it’s filled.
After preparing the mold, remove the spheres from the mold and place them on a warm plate. This will melt the edge. Then, fill the remaining half of the sphere with melted chocolate. Press it down for a few seconds to form the seal. Once the chocolate bombs are completely solid, place them back in the refrigerator for ten minutes. While they’re chilling, prepare the toppings.
Once the shells have cooled, place them in a container with an airtight lid or freeze them separately. You can make hot chocolate bombs using any type of milk, such as whole milk or soymilk. They can be stored individually or in airtight containers. Once finished, keep them in a cool place away from heat, and use a cold dish to clean your hands. To prevent the chocolate from melting, you can run your hands under cold water before sealing them.

12 ounces semi-sweet chocolate (You can use bars or chips)
6 tablespoons hot cocoa mix
1 cup marshmallows (use mini)
6 cups whole milk
Set up a double boiler
- Take a heat protected bowl that will fit on top of the pot. So that it won’t touch the water.
- Fill a half pot with water and set medium heat.
Chop and temper the chocolate
- Chop 4 ounces of chocolate.
- Insert remaining chocolate in the bowl and melt the chocolate in the double boiler, keep mixing with a spatula.
- To make Hot Chocolate Bombs, be careful not to heat the chocolate too much. You should never let it reach the temperature of your body, but keep an eye on it. Maintain temperature so that it won’t exceed 100° F.
Remove the bowl from the double boiler
- Continue mixing until the chocolate until it goes down to 88 and 91°F.
- Take 1 tablespoon chocolate into 6 parchment paper liners.
- Coat both side of the liners with the chocolate. You can use a brush.
